ALIGNMENT BASED HATHA YOGA

Hatha simply refers to the practice of physical yoga postures or asanas. The word “hatha” can be translated as “sun” (ha) and “moon” (tha), the yoga of balance. This particular type of Hatha yoga also focuses on the maintaining the alignment of the axial skeleton during postures. This awareness allows for a very safe and intentional type of practice that uses the principles of anatomy to guide the poses. Hatha practices are designed to align and calm your body and mind in preparation for meditation.

MEDITATION AND PRANAYAMA

Meditation can be described as simply as paying attention, in the moment, on purpose, and without judgement. You can incorporate meditation in all parts of your day; whether practicing asanas, standing in the grocery line, or having dinner with your kids. The breath and the mind are linked to facilitate this mindfulness. We can not control the mind, but by controlling the breath or prana, we can learn how to be in the present moment. There are many breath practices and techniques to make this an accessible tool for anyone.

YOGA FOR SPECIAL CONDITIONS

Everyone has the ability to practice yoga; simply start where you are, whatever that looks like. Yoga for special conditions encompasses everything from knee replacements, hip replacements, shoulder injuries, spinal issues, and so many more. Yoga is about creating space in the mind and body and this type of practice allows students to access postures and breath practices that do just that. Gentle yoga is a great way to get started and learn the foundation needed to move into more challenging postures, if that is the direction you want to go.
